Combining Prints

The conventional thinking of not to mix prints in what one wears since four years old might in some way affect the willingness to mix prints together in a quilt design.

However, it is easy to see that a variety of prints can and do complement each other in the design of a striking quilt. Selecting colors that are compatible from the color wheel guidelines can lead to success with mixing the following patterned fabrics in the same quilt:
  • A print with a small pattern design and lots of background color showing, with
  • A print with an even mix of color and pattern, with
  • A busy print that has a heavy pattern and little background color
